Pretty interesting question today posed by Guy Ramsey, the editor of UK Athletics’ Cat Scratches and a contributor on this site.
Given the parade of talent that’s walked through the halls of Rupp Arena since John Calipari took over, Ramsey asked who would make Coach Cal’s UK Dream Team if you combined the talents of his first three teams in Lexington. With 12 five-star signees, nine NBA draft picks and five lottery choices in three years, there’s no right or wrong answer.
To get a gauge on what people would say, Ramsey asked four college basketball writers for their opinion. I’ve posted their starting five below, but you’ll have to head to Ramsey’s original post to read their reasoning.
Gary Parrish, CBS Sports – John Wall, Doron Lamb, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, DeMarcus Cousins, Anthony Davis
Matt May, The Cats’ Pause – John Wall, Brandon Knight, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, DeMarcus Cousins, Anthony Davis
Larry Vaught, Danville Advocate-Messenger – John Wall, Brandon Knight, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Patrick Patterson, Anthony Davis
Chris Dortch, Blue Ribbon College Basketball Yearbook – John Wall, Brandon Knight, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, DeMarcus Cousins, Anthony Davis
To take it a step further, what about the rest of Coach Cal’s teams at Memphis and Massachusetts? What happens when you throw players like Derrick Rose, Tyreke Evans, Chris Douglas-Roberts, Dajuan Wagner and Marcus Camby into the mix? Does it change who you makes your starting five? And who is your first five off the bench?
