Three of John Calipari’s former players at Kentucky were selected Thursday night to play in the BBVA Rising Stars Challenge.
John Wall (Washington Wizards) and DeMarcus Cousins (Sacramento Kings) were picked up by Team Chuck (Charles Barkley’s team) while Brandon Knight (Detroit Pistons) was selected by Team Shaq (Shaquille O’Neal’s team).
The game, which will be held Feb. 24 at 9 p.m. in Orlando, Fla., during NBA All-Star Weekend, will be played under a new format. The game has historically featured NBA rookies facing off against sophomores, but for the first time this season, rookies and sophomores will be mixed together on teams.
Wall and Cousins were the stories in last year’s Rookie Challenge. Wall dished out a record 22 assists en route to MVP honors and Cousins recorded 33 points and 14 rebounds.
