Purrfection: Cats discuss their 16-0 SEC record

Sixteen-and-oh (my)!

On Sunday, Kentucky pulled off what only two other teams (1996 UK and 2003 UK) have achieved in the Southeastern Conference since Alabama in 1956 – perfection. With a 74-59 victory on Sunday in Gainesville, Fla., the Wildcats ran the table in the SEC without a single loss.

Anthony Davis, polishing his résumé for National Player of the Year, led the Cats with 22 points, 12 rebounds and six blocks, helping UK pull away in the second half after the Gators had all but erased a 16-point lead. Terrence Jones was a beast from the start, posting 19 points, four rebounds, three blocks and two steals. Marquis Teague had 12 points and four assists.

With the victory, the 2011-12 Wildcats became the first team in program history to notch 30 wins before the regular season. Sunday’s victory also marked John Calipari’s eighth 30-win season.

Kentucky was just a buzzer beater away at Indiana from achieving a perfect regular season.
