LOUISVILLE — Obviously much bigger stakes are at hand Saturday evening at the KFC Yum! Center, but a couple of records could be broken when Kentucky takes on Iowa State in the third round of the NCAA Tournament.

UK, with 307 blocks on the year, is nine swats short of breaking Connecticut’s NCAA single-season record of 315 blocks, set during the 2003-04 season. Anthony Davis, who owns 164 of those blocks, is also seven short of breaking Jarvis Varnado’s Southeastern Conference single-season record of 170 blocks.

For most teams, those records would appear to be two games away, but Kentucky has blocked nine or more shots 17 times this season, and Davis has finished with seven or more blocks in eight games.

The Cats will obviously trade a chance to advance for history, but it’s something to keep an eye on Saturday.
