Late-night notes: Cousins, Patterson post career nights in head-to-head matchup

Just a few notes before I call it a night and dive into Final Four coverage on Tuesday:

  • Former Kentucky stars DeMarcus Cousins and Patrick Patterson, both of whom played a season under John Calipari, posted career nights in a matchup against each other. Cousins scored a career-high 38 points and grabbed 14 rebounds for the Sacramento Kings, but Patterson and the Houston Rockets got the last laugh as Patterson scored a career-high 24 points in a 113-106 overtime victory. Cousin is averaging 16.9 points and 11.0 rebounds in his sophomore season in the NBA and Patterson is posting 7.4 points and 4.3 rebounds per game.
  • Archie Goodwin, who signed with Coach Cal and the Cats in the fall, finished second in the 2012 Power Jam Fest at the McDonald’s All-American Game. Steve Jones of Cats Illustrated has video of one of Goodwin’s dunks. The actual game is Wednesday at 9:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.
  • Coach Cal did a couple of radio interviews Monday to talk about the Final Four before his team gets down to business on Tuesday for Louisville. You can listen to his appearance on The Scott Van Pelt Show here, and below is the audio of his evening interview with Mike Francesa.
  • We’ll start rolling out the Final Four coverage on Tuesday. Stay tuned.
