The news that Nerlens Noel has officially signed as a Kentucky Wildcat is only minutes old, but we’ve already got an accomplishment to add to his résumé.

Noel, regarded as the No. 1 recruit in the 2012 class, according to ESPN and Scout, was named USA Today’s national player of the year on Thursday after averaging 12.6 points, 7.9 rebounds and 3.9 blocks at Tilton in Tilton, N.H. The 6-foot-10 forward was also named a first-team high school All-American by USA Today.

Future teammate Alex Poythress was tabbed to the third team.
