Just about every national championship team at Kentucky has had one. The Fabulous Five. The Fiddlin’ Five. The Untouchables. The Comeback Cats.
Nearly every team that has cut down the nets at UK has borne a nickname that has set it apart from some of the other great teams at Kentucky. There are also a few beloved teams that, while they didn’t win the championship, they earned legendary status – like Rupp’s Runts, the Unforgettables and John Calipari’s first team at UK, the Draft Cats.
Now it’s time to honor the 2011-12 national championship team with a nickname of its own, and what better way to do that than to tie in the Big Blue Nation with the official identification of one of the greatest teams to ever put on the Kentucky jersey.
We’ve asked around and come up with five we felt were the most popular. I have an idea of what I think is the best, but as Coach Cal often says, this is the Commonwealth’s Team, so we want you to come up with the final name and make it official.
Vote in the poll below for your favorite. The poll will close on Sunday at 5 p.m. Of course, if you don’t like the choices below, feel free to leave a comment below. Have fun with it.
