Calling on everyone in the Big Blue Nation: We need your help this week with the UK Alumni Charity Game at Rupp Arena (Sept. 15 at 2 p.m.).
This game is a unique opportunity to show the world that you can only pull off this type of event at Kentucky. We want to be able to do this event every year because it gives us an opportunity to bring back former players and their families and let them truly feel a part of our family again. More than anything, it gives us a chance to give back to the community as all of the proceeds will go to charity.
I’m a little disappointed to report that we haven’t sold all of our tickets for the lower bowl. If you are still on the fence about coming, allow me to clear up a few things for you.
None of the players coming back are being paid to be here. They are coming back to be a part of this with the fans. They want to come back and experience this event with the Big Blue Nation. They are asking nothing in return; only a chance to form another moment with the fans they grew up to love.
They are also coming back to assist us in helping the community. They want to make a difference, and I’ve told them one of the best ways we can do that is by coming together and getting behind the Big Blue Nation. I want them to be able to hand out big checks to charities like Samaritan’s Feet, 4 Paws for Ability, the West Liberty Recovery Fund and Everfi Financial Literacy. Together we can make a difference in a lot of people’s lives.
I know some of you are hesitant because you want confirmation on who will be there. Unfortunately we are limited in what we can promote. Understand that a lot of the guys you want to see will be back.
We can confirm that members of the 1996 national championship team will be in attendance, including Derek Anderson, Wayne Turner, Tony Delk, Antoine Walker, Jeff Sheppard, Walter McCarty, Anthony Epps, Jared Prickett and Oliver Simmons. Several of them have agreed to play in the game. Former players Randolph Morris and Perry Stevenson will be playing, and Drake has agreed to serve as a coach for one of the teams.
Keep in mind that we may have some other special people visiting that weekend who will want to see what the Big Blue Nation is capable of. We want to continue to show them that you can only do things like this at this level at Kentucky.
But we can’t do any of that without your help. We need people to buy these tickets. If you want to help but can’t come, buy a couple tickets and give them away to someone who can’t afford it. Give them to your neighbor or someone at work. Let’s just make sure we show up in full force.
You’ve never let me down before, Big Blue Nation, so let’s once again come together and show everyone what sets us apart from the pack.
Tickets for the alumni game can only be purchased at the Rupp Arena box office, online at Ticketmaster.com, at any Ticketmaster Outlet or by phone at 1-800-745-3000. All remaining seats are reserved and priced at $40 (lower level) and $20 (upper level). There is a four-ticket limit per person. Online orders and phone orders will have additional fees attached.
