BROOKLYN, N.Y. — Kentucky will commemorate its eighth national championship with new, specially made uniforms for Friday night’s season opener at the Barclays Center Classic.
Designed by Nike, the all-white, HyperElite 2.0 uniforms feature eight stars on the back neck to represent UK’s eight national titles. The belt-buckle patch includes the number 12 for the 2012 national championships, filling in the “Pattern Excellence” box that was left open for years.
The uniforms are the lightest Nike has ever produced and are designed to maximize movement.
Kentucky’s players did not not know they were going to be wearing the new uniforms until arriving at the Barclays Center locker room Friday night. The uniforms are only for the Barclays Center Classic game against Maryland, which is also wearing new uniforms.
