Kentucky signee Dominique Hawkins was named boys’ players of the year in the state of Kentucky by the Associated Press on Tuesday.
Hawkins, who officially became a Wildcat on April 18 when he signed with UK, swept the major high school basketball awards in Kentucky in 2013. The Madison Central High School guard was also named Kentucky’s Mr. Basketball and Kentucky Gatorade State Player of the Year after leading his team to the state championship.
Hawkins averaged 20.4 points, 5.6 rebounds and 2.9 assists in leading Madison Central to a 35-2 record this year. En route to MVP honors, Hawkins averaged 26.8 points and 8.8 rebounds during the Sweet Sixteen at Rupp Arena.
Forward Derek Willis, who inked with UK during the fall signing period, joined Hawkins on the AP first team.
Both Hawkins and Willis are rated three-star recruits by Rivals.
