DeMarcus Cousins is about to get some very big help.
According to a Sacramento TV station, Shaquille O’Neal is going to mentor former John Calipari big man DeMarcus Cousins and try to build on the undeniable talent that Cousins has displayed but not yet mastered in his first three years in the NBA. Steve Large, a CBS reporter for the affiliate in Sacramento, talked to O’Neal before a meeting with Sacramento Kings owners Vivek Ranadive and Mark Mastrov, and O’Neal said he has big plans for the Kings’ big man.
“I’m going to make DeMarcus Cousins the best big man in the game,” O’Neal said.
It’s unclear what role O’Neal will have with the Kings, but any help he can provide Cousins could turn him from a talented young big man into one of the game’s best players.
Cousins, who is coincidentally in Lexington this week, has averaged 16.3 points and 9.8 rebounds during his first three seasons in Sacramento.
