When you turn on the TV or your radio this week, there’s a good chance you will see or hear John Calipari.
With his new book, “Players First: Coaching from the Inside Out,” due in bookstores on Tuesday, Coach Cal will be making the media rounds this week to talk about the release.
Players First gives an unfiltered look into what Calipari thinks separates good teams and coaches from bad ones, the things that are seriously awry in today’s college game, and what he coaches for – his players.
“I’ve been approached many times about doing a book, and I almost always say no, but this one kind of hit home,” Calipari said. “This book gives me the chance to go in-depth about how we do things at Kentucky and why we do what we do.”
In Coach Cal’s first book since “Bounce Back: Overcoming Setbacks to Succeed in Business and in Life,” Calipari discusses, in great detail, his coaching philosophy, how he gets the best out of his players and how he gets through to players who already have an eye on the pros.
Michael Sokolove, a New York Times Best Seller and contributing writer for the New York Times Magazine, is partnering with Calipari to write the book. Sokolove’s previous books include: “Warrior Girls: Protecting our Daughters Against the Injury Epidemic in Women’s Sports,” “The Ticket Out: Daryl Strawberry and The Boys of Crenshaw,” and “Hustle: The Myth, Life and Lies of Pete Rose.”
Below is Coach Cal’s media schedule for the next three days. It only includes live TV and radio appearances. There will be several other taped media appearances over the next few weeks, including SI Now with Maggie Gray, the O’Reilly Factor with Bill O’Reilly and the Charlie Rose Show PBS-TV.
All times below are subject to change.
Calipari will be doing local book signings later this week and into next week. We will post that later this week.
