Friday, July 17th, 2009 my good friend LeBron James stopped in to see the team and me at the Craft Center. He was on his way down to speak at Mo Williams’ camp in Jackson, Mississippi, and asked me if he could stop in “on his way down.” Of course!
He got to meet a lot of all the great folks at UK Athletics and the University, including our A.D., Mitch Barnhart and our president, Dr. Todd.
LeBron went down to our practice floor, and I introduced him to the team. Due to NCAA rules, I could not stay and watch; I had to leave LeBron down there to enjoy the pick-up games the guys were playing. Someone told me that LeBron could not help himself and just sit and watch; he had to get up and shoot in his street clothes on one of the six side goals. It was a huge thrill for the team to have LeBron stop by and watch them and I am glad they can all say “remember the day LeBron stopped in?”
I’m grateful for the relationship I’ve been able to forge with LeBron. He is an incredible person with a heart as big his talent. It’s special to have him as an honorary member of Big Blue Nation.
