Graduation day at Kentucky

Congratulations are in store for Kentucky seniors Dominique Hawkins, Mychal Mulder and Derek Willis. All three Wildcats graduated Friday, giving the men’s basketball team 17 graduates over the last eight years under Coach Cal. Every player who has been eligible to graduate by the end of their senior year has done so. Three Kentucky players have graduated in just three years under Calipari’s direction, and two of those players (Patrick Patterson and Alex Poythress) are playing in the NBA.

While Mulder chose not to walk at commencement Friday, Hawkins and Willis walked across the stage to receive their diploma. Prior to commencement, the two Kentucky natives went back to the UK locker room where they were congratulated by Calipari and UK president Dr. Eli Capilouto.

Coach Cal also poked his head out of his office to congratulate all the graduates and invited some in for a picture and a few selfies.

Look who popped in my office on graduation day! The vibe in this building is unbelievable. #UKGrad

And in case you missed it Thursday, Coach Cal wrote a great piece on the website about the importance of education in the one-and-done era of college basketball.
