Coach Cal invites Capitol Police officer to Kentucky game

Kentucky head coach John Calipari knows a servant leader when he sees one, and Capitol Police officer David Bailey is certainly that.

Bailey was one of the first responders at Wednesday morning’s shooting at a congressional baseball practice in Alexandria, Virginia. Five people were injured in the shooting, but many lives were saved thanks to Bailey and his fellow Capitol Police officers.

After hearing of Bailey’s heroics, Calipari reached out to him and invited him to a Kentucky basketball game to be the honorary ‘Y.’

“Just got off the phone with David Bailey of Capitol Police, one of two police officers today who saved a lot of lives,” Calipari posted on his Facebook page. “David was hit in the ankle as he charged the gunman. What a hero and what courage. I told him he’s gotta come to a game and do the Y. That’s a champion. I didn’t get to talk to her, but I also want to commend the bravery of the other Capitol Police officer who was injured today: Crystal Griner. Unbelievable courage and hero. #BBN, make sure our prayers are with all those who were injured today.”
