Links: Kentucky’s title destiny, preseason top 100 players
Here are a few links worth checking out on a rainy day in Lexington:
- To preview the 2011-12 basketball season, Grantland is looking at five teams that have a chance to win the national title and asking local writers to provide their reasons why each team will win the national championship. For Kentucky, Grantland went with Kentucky Sports Radio personality Matt Jones, who is convinced that this is the year Kentucky brings home banner No. 8. In fact, as he details in his piece, he hasn’t been this sure about a team winning a national title since before the 1995-96 season. His reasoning is highlighted by three main points: 1.) It’s Calipari’s time after years of coming agonizingly close, 2.) The all-time high of UK’s talent level, and 3.) The fans deserve it. Check out the full story here.
- The college basketball analysts at CBS have put together their list of the top 100 players in the country. Kentucky landed five players on the list, led by freshman Anthony Davis at No. 7 overall. Sophomore Terrence Jones (11), Freshman Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (16), freshman Marquis Teague (48) and sophomore Doron Lamb (69) round out the Wildcats in the top 100. Only UNC had more players on the list (six) than Kentucky. See the full list here.
