Anthony Davis could make a habit of appearing on our weekly “Helmet Dunk of the Week” candidates list.
Davis joins Eloy Vargas as our two candidates for the best dunk of the practice week. The freshman forward out of Chicago made the list again by going airborne for a one-hand slam earlier this week. Vargas, a senior forward and the “victim” of Davis’ punishing dunk, redeemed himself in Sunday’s practice with a two-hand alley-oop finish.
Fans can vote on the “Helmet Dunk of the Week” in the CoachCal.com interactive poll at the bottom of this post.
Freshman forward Michael Kidd-Gilchrist won the people’s vote last week for his two-hand dunk on Davis. Kidd-Gilchrist beat out Davis’ one-hand tomahawk slam with 65 percent of the votes.
What is exactly is a “Helmet Dunk?”
Initiated by assistant coach John Robic, the Kentucky basketball team traditionally crowns a player with a helmet if he gets dunked on or “posterized” in practice. When practice is over, the player that throws down the dunk gets the honor of putting the helmet on the victim. The player that’s at the other end of the dunk has to keep the helmet in his locker until the next “Helmet Dunk.”
So who is it going to be this week? Who had this week’s “Helmet Dunk of the Week?” (special thanks to UK Sports Video for the practice footage)
