He was the unanimous NBA Rookie of the Year this year, and now Karl-Anthony Towns is returning to Lexington to help Kentucky head coach John Calipari lead the inaugural Rookie of the Year Camp.
The Rookie of the Year Camp with Karl-Anthony Towns will be broken up into two sessions and is scheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 3 on the UK campus. The first session is from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., and the second session will begin at 1:30 p.m. and run until 5:00 p.m. The camp is open to both boys and girls ages 7-17.
The Rookie of the Year Camp is 3.5 hours long and will touch on all aspects of the game: passing, shooting, defense, ball handling and skill work. Towns will personally work and interact with each and every camper.
Campers will be pre-assigned to appropriate age/grade level divisions in which all skills work, competitions and games will take place. Skills work will be taught by UK coaches and staff, along with current and former Wildcat players. Each camper will be assigned a team within their respective age groups. Complete camp itineraries, gym schedules, and day camper drop-off and pick-up information will be included in the confirmation email sent to parents prior to the start of camp.
The cost of the camp is $99.
A limited number of spots are available for both sessions and are based on a first-come, first-served basis, with online registration recommended as the fastest and most efficient form of registering campers.
Towns led all rookies in scoring (18.3 points per game) and rebounding (10.5 rebounds per game), and was second in blocks (1.7 blocks per game). He also led all rookies in double-doubles with 51, which was the third most in the league among all players, and 30 more than any other rookie. The former UK big man set the Minnesota Timberwolves rookie scoring record with 1,503 points. He is just the fifth unanimous Rookie of the Year in NBA history.
