Quote of Note

John Calipari

“That environment was a ridiculous environment. We had a call from the President, so you are talking about distractions. John (Wall) had three busloads of people down there. Patrick (Patterson) had half of his town down there. All of the sudden, we had more distractions, an unbelievable environment and an inspired team with a guy that can make bad shots. We addressed it and hopefully we’ll get better at it.” - On the South Carolina loss

UK vs Vanderbilt

Pre Game Notes

Almost every game this season has been uncharted territory for the young UK Wildcats. But today's contest against Vanderbilt brings the foreign feeling to a whole new level, as UK is coming off its first loss of the season.

Coach Calipari hasn't lost back-to-back games since late in the 2004-05 season but that doesn't mean today's outcomer is a certainity. "If you look at it, my teams have traditionally done pretty well after losses," Coach Cal said. "But this team? With all these young guys? I just don't know how they'll react."

Coach does know one thing, however. Vanderbilt is a veteran team with great guard play - especially at the point - and they never seem to get rattled. They've made substantial comebacks in several games this season.

"They're not going to go away in this game," Coach told the team in the morning shootaround. "It's a great game to play in and coach in. They're going to make a run, we'll make a run. We've got to be prepared for that."

• It's Coaches vs. Cancer® Suits and Sneakers awareness weekend. UK coaches will be wearing sneakers on the sideline as part of a collaborative initiative of the American Cancer Society and the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC). Participating NABC member coaches will wear sneakers instead of dress shoes with their suits during this weekend's games to demonstrate their support for the American Cancer Society and its vision of a world with less cancer and more birthdays. Basketball fans are also encouraged to wear sneakers to games that weekend to show their support.

There will be some other sneaker news we can share with you during the game, but as a hint, be sure to check out the Cats' feet as you watch the game.

• Josh Harrellson hit the traditional end of shootaround halfcourt shot.

Post Game Notes

UK's post game locker room was filled with a mostly content bunch following the 13-point win over Vanderbilt on Saturday. It was also partially filled with local and international celebrities who passed through Coach Calipari's office to congratulate him on the win.

In addition to LeBron James, the Commonwealth's governor, Steve Beshear, was also at the game and he hand delivered a donation from the Governor's office to the Hoops for Haiti efforts.

An official letter addressed to Coach and the Member's of the men's Basketball team from the Governor's office accompanied the donation and read, in part, "It is a privilege to be a part of your humanitarian efforts, and on behalf of the citizens of the Commonwealth, I commend each of you for giving unselfishly to help the Citizens of Haiti.

"Congratulations on a fantastic season, and we look forward to cheering on through the Final Four."
