Quote of Note

Jon Hood

“Every day I come in and face these All-Americans and all these great players.  During practice, I’m guarding Eric (Bledsoe), Darius (Miller), DeAndre (Liggins) and John Wall. I think my defense has gotten better. I’ve been working on my shot, ball-handling skills, and my strength in the weight room, so I think I’m better than I was the last time I played in a game and a lot better than I was at the beginning of the season.”

Behind the Numbers

Looking for the true value of National Player of the year Candidate John Wall to UK? In the last 2 minutes plus OT during the season, he's scored 62 pts in 66 minutes with only 4 TOs while shooting 60% from the field. Is there another POY candidate who can match THOSE impressive numbers?

Wednesday night’s 80-68 win over Georgia at Stegeman Coliseum ensure UK at least a share of the SEC regular season title and puts the Cardiac Cats in a great position for a No. 1 seed in the upcoming NCAA Tournament.

Led by 24 points from National Player of the Year of Candidate John Wall and a double-double from junior Patrick Patterson, the Wildcats turned a 4-point halftime edge into a 19 point bulge with 8:58 left in the game.

Once again Wall filled up the stat sheet, hitting 8 of 10 from the field (including 3 of 5 from 3-point land and 5 of 5 form the free throw line), dishing out 6 assists to go with 3 steals and a block.

All tolled, UK blocked a season-high 14 shots with 6 coming from DeMarcus Cousins, who added 6 points, 4 rebounds, an assist and a steal in just 21 minutes of play.

Georgia was led by Jeremy Price’s 19 points and the shortest player on the floor, Travis Leslie, hauled in a Bulldog-high 10 rebounds to go with his 8 points.

Every Wildcat who played more than two minutes scored at least 2 points, as Darnell Dodson led the reserves with 11 points on 3 of 6 from 3-point land.

The Cats return to action on Sunday afternoon at 12 p.m. for the final regular season game of the year against Florida. Pre-game festivities will honor UK’s three seniors, Ramon Harris, Mark Krebs and Perry Stevenson. Junior Patrick Patterson will also be recognized as he will graduate in three years.
