While Ramsey’s amazing career with the Celtics may seem to overshadow his years at UK to fans outside Kentucky, he said his time in college prepared him for life. Ramsey, who currently lives in Madisonville, Ky., said that the structure and coaching he received at UK, as well as the tradition within the school, helped shape his life and career and will continue to do so for Wildcat players to come.
One of the few coaches to follow a legend with success, Hall was honored Tuesday with the unveiling of a 400-pound statue bearing his likeness. The ceremony took place at the Wildcat Coal Lodge, the new dormitory that houses the Kentucky basketball team and other UK students.
Thursday was the opening day of the John Calipari Basketball Fantasy Experience and Kentucky’s practice facility was overrun with some of the best players in the history of the program. In the men’s practice gym, there was Wayne Turner with Nerlens Noel practicing over his shoulder. Over on the women’s court, Derek Anderson was coaching up some of the campers that had paid to be a part of it all. On the Memorial Coliseum floor, Walter McCarty was getting reacquainted with the local media.
Being nontraditional is part of our tradition. It always has been and always will be a pillar of Kentucky basketball.
