UK defeated Florida in both meetings this season, winning 78-58 on Feb. 7 in Rupp Arena and 74-59 last weekend in the regular-season finale in Gainesville, Fla.
Kentucky won five of the SEC’s six major awards. John Calipari won SEC Coach of the Year for the first time, Darius Miller was tabbed the Sixth Man of the Year, and Davis was named Freshman of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year, in addition to his Player of the Year honors. Florida’s Patric Young prevented the SEC sweep by winning SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
Jones (19 points) and Davis (22 points, 12 rebounds and six blocks), still using that loss from three months ago as motivation, dominated No. 16/13 Florida on Sunday in Kentucky’s regular-season finale in Gainesville, Fla. Winning their 22nd straight game since losing to the Hoosiers, Kentucky (30-1, 16-0 Southeastern Conference) pounded the Gators 74-59 to achieve SEC perfection.
After watching his team get outrebounded, “outhustled” and “outworked” in the second half of doubleheader nightcap, a hot and irritated John Calipari said this letdown loss simply came down to toughness. One team (Baylor) had it. The other (Kentucky) didn’t.
